    Maarten van Severen

A graduate of the Art Institute of Ghent with an architecture degree, Maarten van Severen is a respected designer and architect. In 1986, he created his first furniture piece, which was the beginning of his passion for creating functional and stylish basic furniture. He started an independent design studio in 1987 which became successful around the world.

van Severen wanted to create pieces of furniture that not only fit in well in a modern setting but are durable and practical for years and years. He experimented with form, material, and construction when designing basic products such as dining tables, chairs, chaise lounges, and shelving units. His goal was to make these staple items as perfect as possible. In addition to designing, he also taught at universities to pass his skills onto the next generation.
